How Drones Are Changing Commercial Real Estate

How Drones are Changing Commercial Real Estate

Advances in drone technology have advanced many fields to an almost unimaginable degree. Photography and videography have utilized drones to take their art form to places no one could have imagined in the past. Drones are also now being used for deliveries, revolutionizing the way we transport goods.

While there are many industries using drone technology, one of the fields using the practice to its highest potential is that of commercial real estate. Drones are changing real estate development in exciting and dramatic ways. This article will examine how drones are shaping the future of the real estate for the better.

Drones In Commercial Real Estate

When starting a construction project in the past, there was no way to know where the best views would be from the building when it was completed. The advent of drones has flipped the script completely. Now when planning a building, one can get a solid idea of which floors and rooms will have the best views when the construction project is complete. This is especially useful for hotels and restaurants so that the premium views and rooms can be planned accordingly before the build gets too far along.

Many real estate projects have been successfully completed without the use of drones. However, drones make these projects much more straightforward and can help those planning the project avoid any troubling obstructions that may be in the way of what was assumed to be a perfect vantage point.

Choosing the Perfect Site

Drones can be a lifesaver when selecting a site for a build. Especially in more densely-populated areas, drones can provide the view from above and help determine traffic in a given area.

When deciding on a site for a construction project, knowing how many people frequent that area is incredibly useful information, and drones can easily provide this data.

Also, this benefit is not limited solely to urban areas. Drone technology can help immensely when selecting an area for agricultural needs. The “full picture” that can be obtained from a drone can help developers and farmers spot areas of concern, such as those with degraded soil or ones that have topographical issues that might not be apparent from a view on the ground.

Improved Analytic Capability Through Sensors

The technological potential for drones seems almost limitless. In building development, drones are now equipped with thermal sensors, which can detect potential issues within heating systems and plumbing systems before they become devastating problems down the road.

But again, these advancements aren’t limited to building development. Sensors such as the NDVI or Normalized Difference Vegetation Index can spot potential problem areas in farmland. This advanced technology can determine a variety of issues pertaining to farms, such as irrigation problems and crops that are experiencing growth complications.

Bottom Line

There is no doubt that drone popularity and ingenuity will only increase as time goes by. Advancements in agriculture, city planning, and all other areas of commercial real estate are likely to become much more reliant on drone technology. Those involved in commercial real estate who aren’t tapping into the potential inherent with drone use should strongly consider adopting the practice before they get left behind.

Snow day with the drone.
